ARREST: MAN ARRESTED FOR ATTACKING KITTEN

Case: On Thursday 12th June 2014 in Florina, an adult male, age not released (Greek national) was witnessed by two females battering a 1.5 month old kitten on the balcony of his property.
Florina Police where informed and the accused was subsequently arrested on the afternoon of Friday, June 13th 2014 where the offender was taken into Police custody.
The accused was arrested under AW Law 4039/12 Article 16 (Abuse of animals)
A. Subject to special cases specifically provided by existing EU and national legislation and the provision of third sentence of paragraph 4 of Article 9 prohibits torture, abuse, poor and brutal treatment any animal species, and any act violence against him, especially as the poisoning, hanging, drowning, burning, crushing and amputation.

Sentence: On Wednesday 24th September 2014, the accused was found GUILTY of animal abuse and was sentenced to ONE YEAR custodial (SUSPENDED) and a fine of 5,000 euros.
* As with all animal abusers (convicted offenders) arrested, charged and sentenced in Greece for animal abuse/murders since Animal Welfare Law 4039/12 came into force in 2012, this convicted offender like ALL convicted offenders walked free from court.
